What can be said about Om Shanti Om? In simple words “No logic only Shah Rukh’s magic.” (I got the idea of this title from Rediff). The movie deals with an unnatural subject; so, do not try to look for serious issues. It is a movie with lots of glitz and glamours and if you watch Hindi movies then you will love it.

The story movie takes off from the 70’s. It depicts the famous movie stars and makes fun with their trademark acting styles. The first half tells the story of a junior artist named Om Prakash Makhija (Shah Rukh Khan) falling in love with the famous actress of the time Shanti. Before their love could flourish they died. From the 70’s, the story comes into 2007. Om prakash Makhija is reincarnated as a famous star, Om Kapoor and Shanti as
This movie is made in similar style of the 2004 block buster, Main Hoon Na. It is a total entertainer and in the moment of Diwali this is what people just crave for. Om Shanti Om has been released in 2000 screens around the world. National Post dubbed Om Shanti Om an “Spectacle” an “Epic movie.”
From a dance sequence that incorporates a badminton match, Bollywood tributes to spaghetti westerns and superhero films, or the extravagant sets (credit to art director Sabu Cyril) that evoke Golden Age Hollywood, you may find yourself rubbing your eyes, incredulous to what you're seeing on screen. For those unused to Bollywood,
According to the review, the movie is not good for its story or script but mixture of comedy, drama, romance, action and supernatural.
On the other hand, Indicine just lambasted Om Shanti Om. As an entertainer, the movie is a total disappointement.
Technically
The movie has major flaws. Both the first half and the second have a lot of similarities, a few scenes actually are repeated! So if you miss the first half or you decide to walk out during the interval, dont worry, you haven’t missed much. The biggest flaw is you never feel for any of the characters, you laugh when the characters cry and vice versa. The transformation of Om Kapoor to
Om Shanti
The movie is a tribute to Bollywood. It will make people nostalgic. One of best moments of the movie was the award giving ceremony. Akshay Kumar did a cameo role but his performance was very good. Deepika Padukone did not have much scope to show her acting talents but she has played her part very well. Arjun Rampal effortlessly fits into the character of the villain; however, the villains in Farah’s movies are not so strong and serious.
Variety lables Om Shanti Om “Masala to the max.” It further says,
Pic is really two movies in one, with part one a jokey tribute to the '70s and part two much more plot-heavy and dramatic. With the hunky Khan onscreen almost the whole time, and seriously overdoing his mature-boyish charm in the first half, the movie also requires considerable tolerance of the King's limited range. Padukone, a real looker with major screen presence, acts as a balance in the early stages; more's the pity she's not given much chance in part two to develop her likeable, klutzy wannabe actress, Sandhya ("just call me Sandy").
Playing a villain for a change, Rampal is fine as the ruthless Mukesh, and Talpade, as
Times Now.TV also praised
The movie dazzles you throughout with its gripping story line. My first thought at watching the trailers was that it was going to be a remake of
The comedy is also done very well, with the director Farah Khan poking some fun at the industry but not criticising it. If anything, she tries to show what it is that we all love about the industry and that is its over the top entertainment.
Khan has always been great at comedies and his character is charming and lovable.
According to Apun Ka Choice, Farha Khan’s Om Shanti Om perfectly matches the festive spirit of Diwali.
The best part about OSO is that it doesn’t pretend to be cerebral. Its humour, its corny sentimentality, and its music combine together to make a perfect recipe to drive your blues away.
On top of it are superb performances by the starcast helmed by the endearing Shah Rukh Khan who does the most corny things with such conviction that you end up liking them. Be it dressing like Rajnikant in the cowboy ‘Murugan’ avatar and fighting with a fluffy tiger. Or rescuing his ladylove from a raging fire and getting scorched above his butt.
In this movie Shah Rukh Khan even cracks jokes about himself. For example, “over acting to mere khandan me hi hai.”
Last but not the least, the finishing touch of the movie was truly exceptional. All the cast and crews of the movie took part in the song “Om Shanti Om” along with 30 movie stars. Normally, when the film ends the names of the crew appears in small fonts making people wander who are they. Om Shanti Om may not have a strong story but it keeps the energy flowing till the end. Three cheers for Farah and Shah Rukh. Once again they have rocked the audience.

I am also waiting to watch Om Shanti Om. It is nice that the movie has got positive response in the box office. However, I do not if movie fans changes their mind in the days to come. I think, Shah Rukh Khan has again proved his worth and Deepika Padukone is going to become the next superstar in Bollywood. Farah Khan, no doubt, has becomes successful with her second movie as well.
