Online Tutoring: What Next?

New York Times last week published an excellent report on outsourcing of online tutoring: Hello, India? I Need Help With My Math. Steve Lohr wrote this report and it is clear that he did some good research for it. New York Times is one of the top newspapers in USA and they normally report on important topics. So, you can easily understand that outsourcing of online tutoring is becoming a growing phenomenon in the US.

I guess that we will see more and more students from America and Europe will be dependent on Indian teachers. India is a good place for outsourcing online tutoring. It seems that Pakistani IT companies want to have a part of the pie.

What next for online tutoring? The Brown Man's Burden: Teaching White Man's Children.

The only thing that makes me concerned is that if any large scale outsourcing of online tutoring takes place then foreign and local IT companies in India will have a tough time to keep their skilled workers and find new workers as many people (especially many women) will want to become interested to become online tutors instead of working in IT companies. So, Indian government and IT companies need to invest in the education sector to ensure growing number of fresh talents in the coming days.

Yes, you have pointed out the pragmatic situation. India needs more and more skilled people to meet the increasing demand of outsourcing as well as local market. I think, Indian government can make a long term planning to get a handful of educated people in future. This kind of online tutoring is really a positive side of India’s economy. So, India needs to increase skilled people to grab the market.
