Bilawal Bhutto is just 19 years old and he is a student in Oxford University. He is the son of Benazir Bhutto. You know that Benazir Bhutto was killed just a few days ago and this tragic death shocked every one in Pakistan. It also put the issue of PPP leadership in front of everyone. The Bhutton family kept the party intact over the years. Now, PPP supporters have turned to Bilawal Bhutto for leadership. Bilawal Bhutto was announced as the chairman of Pakistan People's Party (PPP) earlier today.

It is thought he will take the role in a ceremonial capacity while he finishes his studies at Oxford University.

Bilawal told journalists at the Bhutto family home: "My mother always said democracy is the best revenge."

Ms Bhutto's widower, Asif Ali Zardari, who is expected to run the party, said it would contest January elections.

Bilawal Zardari (now Bilawal Bhutto) was born in 21 September, 1988. He studied in Dubai and then in London. He spent a considerable part of his life outside of Pakistan. So, naturally, there might be question whether Bilawal Bhutto would be the best person to be the chairman of PPP. Earlier, there was media report that Bilawal Bhutto was reluctant to be the head of the party.

Sherry Rehman, Bhutto's spokesperson who was with her when she was attacked by a suicide bomber in Rawalpindi on Thursday, said 19-year-old Bilawal is "not keen" on heading the party.

"No decision has been taken as yet on the leadership of the party. I don't want to pre-empt things before the central executive committee of the PPP meets (to decide on who should lead the party)," Rehman told Geo News at Naudero, Bhutto's ancestral village near here.

Rehman also indicated that Bilawal would go back to Britain's Oxford University to continue his studies.

This was a smart move by senior leaders of PPP. If Asif Ali Zardari was announced as the chairman then the party could face a lot of problems. A lot of workers and leaders in PPP are not fan of Asif Ali Zardari and making him the chairman would have backfired for the party at this moment.

On the other hand, Bilawal Bhutto is a teenage boy and he is the son of Benazir Bhutto. Many people are sympathetic towards him at this moment. So, this will help PPP to do well in the upcoming general election.
