Nepalese people are spending perhaps the most peaceful time now after years of violence and political instability. For Madhesi Community in Terai Plain, peace is elusive. I have written about the violence in Terai Plain in this blog. There was some hope of peace a few months ago but things do not look good at this moment. There is danger of fresh violence.

Reuters reported:

The forum and the government signed an agreement earlier this year under which Kathmandu agreed to resolve most grievances of the Madhesis. But Yadav said the government had failed to live up to its promise, forcing fresh protests.

He said his group had set up a "Joint Madhesi Front" with a splinter group of a local party to fight for the interests of the people, who are closer to those living across the border in India in terms of language, culture and ethnicity than to Nepalis from the mountains.

The group plans a series of protest rallies in the Terai starting on December 26. Another round will start in January to mark the first anniversary of violent protests in the area, according to a statement. 

Nepalese government officials should take this matter seriously. The people of Madhesi Community have some specific demands. All the major political parties should sit together and try to find some common grounds with the leaders of Madhesi Community.

The UMF demands include a caretaker government to hold constituent assembly government, establishment of “Madesh autonomous region” and action against the murderers of journalist Birendra Shah of Bara.   

Nepal has seen a lot of violence in the last one decade. It is time that Nepalese government and leaders of Madhesi Community find a way to solve all the problems in a peaceful way. Return of violence will not help anyone in Nepal.
