There are not too many days before Election 2008 in Nepal. So, naturally, political leaders are busy to sort their strategies to attract the voters. Well, Nepalese people are now consumed not with the idea of election 2008 but with the possibility of fuel hike. In fact, there was an announcement of fuel price hike in Nepal earlier and then people went to the street to protest and the government backed down.

AFP wrote:

The protests began Tuesday after the government increased diesel prices by nine percent and kerosene prices by 19.6 percent.

The price rise was rolled back "taking into consideration people's sentiments and the upcoming elections," the minister said, referring to crucial polls planned for April 10 that will decide Nepal's political future.

Well, the reality is that Nepalese government will have to go for fuel price sooner or later as they cannot continue selling fuel at subsidized price for a long time. I just hope that Nepalese decision makers gave more attention to bio-gas and other alternative energy sources.
