Associated Press reports:
Several dozen people — including a pilot, county constable and business owners — insist they have seen a large silent object with bright lights flying low and fast. Some reported seeing fighter jets chasing it.
"People wonder what in the world it is because this is the Bible Belt, and everyone is afraid it's the end of times," said Steve Allen, a freight company owner and pilot who said the object he saw last week was a mile long and half a mile wide. "It was positively, absolutely nothing from these parts."
While federal officials insist there's a logical explanation, locals swear that it was larger, quieter, faster and lower to the ground than an airplane. They also said the object's lights changed configuration, unlike those of a plane. People in several towns who reported seeing it over several weeks have offered similar descriptions of the object.
Ricky Sorrells, a machinist, first told his friends about seeing a flat metallic object about 300 feet but they made fun of him. After hearing from other people, he decided to come forward and reveal the news. Earth Couth Constable, Lee Roy Gaitan, first saw red glowing lights and then white flashing lights moving fast. He could not see the object clearly with binoculars. According to Gaitan, the light emitted from the flying object was nothing that can be seen on earth. It was very bright. He was certain that it was not an airplane. It was not even a meteor because it did not bounce around. It was just one light.
Not just Stephenville but people from other towns also reported sighting a flying object and their descriptions were also similar to those of the Stephenville residents.
Some local people even said that they saw two jet planes chasing the object. However, federal officials and army personals did not agree with their views. According to army spokesman, Major Karl Lewis, from 301st Fighter Wing in
There are two airforce bases in that area: Dyess and Sheppard; and none of their aircrafts flew over that area last week. One man has offered reward if anyone can give him videotape or photograph of the flying object.
Many people thought that it was a biblebelt. All Headline News reports:
"People wonder what in the world it is because this is the Bible Belt, and everyone is afraid it's the end of times," explained Steve Allen, a freight company owner and pilot. He insisted that the thing he saw, a mile long and half a mile wide, was "positively, absolutely nothing from these parts."
Local officials insisted that there had to be a logical explanation to the sighting - an argument that was trashed by residents who insisted that the object's behavior of changing light configurations was nothing like that of a plane.
After hearing about the incident, members of Mutual UFO Network (MUFON), one of the largest scientific organizations working on UFOs, have decided to visit the town.
