I saw a depressing report in Hindustan Times: Shame: Rape is India’s fastest growing crime. This is quite depressing. Indian economy is growing fast and India is a democratic country. So, India should be a role model for other countries when it comes to stopping violence against women. Unfortunately, Indian women are suffering more and foreign female tourists are being attacked these days too.

Hindustan Times wrote:

There have been at least a dozen cases of molestation and rape of foreign tourists in the first couple of weeks of 2008. The latest was reported on Saturday  — a British woman alleged that she was raped in Panaji. Worried over the sexual assaults on tourists, which has the potential to damage the tourism industry as well as the country’s image, the Centre has convened a meeting on January 24 with state governments to review their safety and security.

What is even more shocking perhaps is the fact that women in Indian capital Delhi have been attacked most as the highest number of cases was recorded here. This kind of bad record can harm India a lot. Indian government has to take stern action against the bad people. If female tourists get attacked on a regular basis then it can cause great harm to Indian tourism industry.
