Bhutan: More Mobile Phones and Less Land Phones

Ugyen Penjore has written an interesting report in Kuensel Online: Landlines go under - cellulars soar. The heading is enough to give you the message. Mobile phone came to Bhutan in 2003 and in fact, Bhutan was one of the last countries on earth to allow mobile phones.

Bhutan has witnessed impressive growth in the number of mobile phones in the last 4 years. Now, there is around 145,000 subscribers. On the other hand, the number of land phone users is just 30,000. Many people still use land phones mainly because of Internet facility. I guess that if Internet facility comes to mobile phones then the use of land phones will decrease significantly in Bhutan.
