An exceptional marriage ceremony has been held in Ghanteswara
Monkey is considered to be a sacred animal according to Hindu Mythology. The groom monkey, named Manu, was raised by a couple from neighboring village, while Jhumuri, the bride monkey, was looked after by Mamina since her husband found Jhumuri in a local temple. Mamina expressed that she felt as if her own daughter was getting married and she was upset with Jhumuri’s farewell.
Both the bride and groom were dressed in typical dress of marriage. The groom reached the temple along with a long procession. Women from the bride’s side received the groom with ululations which is a common ritual of Hindu marriage. The guests were served delicious foods and villages brought gifts for the brides. Following all the rituals, the monkey couple was released.
Religious belief might be the reason of such marriage as monkey has a sacred place in Hindu religion. Anyway, whatever the reason is, the marriage ceremony created a huge excitement among the local people. In fact, this marriage ceremony provided entertainment to the villagers.
