Sri Lankan herbal medicine researchers have found herbal treatment for AIDS patients. This herbal medicine would lessen the pains and elongates the life span of AIDS patients. Researchers at the Bandaranaike Memorial Ayurvedic Research Institute (BMARI) developed this herbal medicine.

Daily Mirror reports:

Senior BMARI Research Officer Dr. Pushpa Wickramasingha said research conducted at the BMARI so far had proved that the sufferings of AIDS patients could be lessened by indigenous medicine. Experimental treatment carried out on five HIV positive patients have brought positive results, she claimed.

The BMARI has also found a therapy to cure Vitiligo (Sudu Kabara) using Ayurvedic medicine and a method of treatment, she said.

There are 200,000 Vitiligo patients in the country and the Nawinna Ayurvedic Research Institute has developed an effective indigenous medicine to cure Vitiligo, Minister Karalliyadda said addressing journalists at the Government Information Department.

AIDS

AIDS does not need any further introduction. It is one of the deadly diseases around the world at present. This disease has no cure. Human Immuno Deficiency Virus also known as HIV is the main cause of AIDS. Once HIV virus gets into your body, it destroys your immune system and you slowly die. The medicines developed so far can slow down this process but most of these medicines are developed by Western countries and they are very expensive. Countries like Bangladesh, India, Pakistan can not afford to use these medicines. If, any alternative medicines such as this herbal medicine could be developed then it will very beneficial for us.

Yes, the alternative medicines are badly needed as the number of AIDS patients are increasing alarmingly in the world. Moreover, most of AIDS affected countries like Ruanda, Kongo etc. are poor in terms of economy. So, cheap rate medicines could be beneficial for the patients of these countries. Sri Lanka’s herbal medicine is a praiseworthy initiative of producing cheap rate medicine of AIDS. I hope, this kind of research will continue.
