Bangladesh: Dr. Mashiur Rahman and Biggani.org

A few days ago, I went to North South University in Dhaka. I accidentally met Dr. Mashiur Rahman who is an Assistant Professor in Dept. Computer Science and Engineering. Dr. Mashiur Rahman is the man behind www.biggani.org  . Biggani.org is one of the few websites in Bangla language where users can submit their contents. The website has used Unicode font. Biggani is in blog format and visitors can easily comment. I liked the website and here is my review.

Bengali is one of the major languages in the world in terms of the number of speakers. However, the reality is that there are very few websites in the net in Bengali language. Particularly, when it comes to educational website in Bengali language, the number is too small.

Biggani.org is a website in Bengali language with a view to enhancing the knowledge of its readers about science and technology. The website, Biggani, is mainly focused on different aspects of science and technology and is updated on a regular basis. Anyone can contribute by becoming a member and submitting their articles. Anyone can comment. However, to write an article one needs to become a member of the site by filling up a form that should not take more than a few minutes.

The Home page of Biggani.org includes a list of topics the site covers. So, the readers can easily check the articles of a specific topic or category he/she interested to. The list of topics is located in the left side of the websites. Readers will find the menus at the top of the home page of the site.

The latest articles and the comments are given at the top half of the home page. So, the visitors can easily go through the latest updates of the site. In the bottom half of the home page, readers can read the first few lines of each of the latest posts.

Though the website is very interesting and educational, I felt that the design of the home page can be made better. Overall, it is a praiseworthy initiative that its vibrant members have taken by launching a science and technology related website in Bengali language.

Biggani.org has created an opportunity for NRBs (Non resident Bangladeshis) to be in touch with the people of Bangladesh. For example, I could see an article written by Ragib Hasan and he is doing research on Networking Security in the US. So, thanks to Biggani.org, we can get an excellent article from Ragib about computer security.

In the end, I am happy to see that Dr. Mashiur Rahman and his team have dedicated their time, money and effort to build a very useful website in Bangla language.
