Bangladesh: Public Hearing on Licensing for Call Center

The Public Hearing on Proposed Licensing for Call Center in Bangladesh was held on 19th March 2008. A lot of people came in the public hearing session. There were so many call center enthusiasts that BTRC had to arrange two sessions. I was present at the afternoon session. It was an amazing experience for all of us present there.

First, the guideline for the licensing of call center was presented. Then, many persons asked questions, gave their opinion and gave some recommendations. There were IT businessmen, students, journalists, IT association leaders from BASIS and ISPAB. BTRC Major General Manzurul Alam (retired) replied to all the questions. I gave a suggestion that BTRC informs other government organizations about call centers so that the issues related to tax, bringing revenue from other countries etc can be addressed quickly.

The Daily Star wrote:

As a follow-up to Public Consultation on the Proposed Licensing Guidelines for Call Centre, BTRC invited the general public and those interested in call Centres to attend the public hearing.

“Any good citizen with trade license is eligible to apply for the license to establish call-centre,” BTRC chairman Maj Gen (retd) Manjurul Alam told the journalists.

BTRC would continue to give license for establishing Call Center as long as there is market demand, he said.

The cost of obtaining the license is Tk 5,000 for five years, which was initially proposed to be Tk 50,000, with no renewal fee.

I am happy to see that BTRC has put the license fee at just 5,000 Taka (around $75) for 5 years. It was quite affordable for anyone.

Whoa! $75 sounds cheap! Let's jump in and I guess I'm going to apply one for me just in case! Where do I get a trade license anyway? Just kidding...well indeed looking forward to it.

Kotogulo license deya hobe?

"Kotogulo license deya hobe?"
Well, I think that BTRC does not have any limitation on giving license. They will try to accomodate everyone who wishes to open a call center.
