Their slogan is, “Constitutional parliamentary monarchical democracy for independent, able and prosperous Nepal.” 542 candidates from the party have registered to compete in the upcoming election. e kantipur reports:
Pro-monarch party Rastriya Prajatantra Party
RPP
It has proposed to bestow executive rights to the Prime Minister as the Head of government while the King will hold the title of Head of State to the King.
At the press conference, RPP
The party’s election manifesto mentions that the fate of monarchy should be decided by a referendum and not the CA.
Kamal Thapa told journalists that the decision to abolish the monarchy should not be taken by the interim government. He further said that democracy and constitutional monarchy are both supplementary and complementary to each other.” The party’s election manifesto also included that
Kamal Thapa served as home minister during the 14 months rule of King Gyanendra. Rumors also came out of RPP receiving large amount of money from the Royal family but Kamal Thapa refuted the claim.
I do not know what Kamal Thapa’s real intentions are- to save the monarchy or fulfilling his personal ambition; but what he proposes is not very good. If any kind of sympathy is shown toward the king at this stage, it will give Maoist party leaders another issue to create problem. However, I agree with him on this point that it is people who should decide the ultimate fate of the king not the seven party members.
