6,768 (in Nepal News it was 6772) Nepalese candidates have passed the Korean Language Test exam held in Kathmandu. Out of 31,511 applicants, 31,175 appeared in the exam which was held at The Tribhuvan University on March 29 and 30. Out of these 6000 applicants 5,500 will get jobs in South Korea.
Nepal and South Korea signed a memorandum of understanding last year according to which proficiency in Korean Language is necessary for applying jobs in South Korea. The Himalayan Times reports:
Those passed examinees will now have to go through a physical and health check-up at the government designated public health institutions, Keshar Bahadur Baniya, director general at DoLEP said.
“After satisfactory results in health check-up, DoLEP will further investigate on past criminal records and academic as well as vocational qualifications of the candidate. Then the names will be sent to HRD-Korea to create a roster,” he informed.
The roster will have details about the job seekers including a CV, police report and medical report, which will be circulated to the Korean employers.
The director of Department of Labour and Employment Promotion (DoLEP) said that the visa processing will start after the tripartite contract is signed between the government, employer and worker. After visa confirmation, the workers will receive preliminary training. The workers selected for jobs will receive $900 excluding lodging, fooding and medical expenses. South Asian countries are the major providers of man power in countries like Singapore, Malaysia, South Korea, Saudi Arab and Middle East and many other countries. Every year, hundreds and thousands of people apply for jobs in these countries. Their remittance plays a major role in the economy. Very often, applicants become victims of fraud. In addition, many workers do not receive proper training which creates lots of problems. Nepal government has done a good thing by arranging the recruitment procedure through government organizations.
