Election 2008 has failed to produce any clear cut winner. The Maoists have emerged as the largest political force but they have bagged 220 seats out of 601 in the parliament. So, they have roughly got a bit more than one third of the seats. That is why, they will need to convince some other political parties to join them in a coalition government. Surely, they want a Prime Minister from their own party.
On the other hand, Nepali Congress (NC) leaders are trying to get the support of some other parties too. They feel that Girija Prasad Koirala should remain as the
Prime Minister as he has the experience and political wisdom to guide Nepal in the coming months.
So, now the small political parties have become very important and I can easily guess that intensive negotiation is going on behind the curtain. The only man who may be happy with this political vacuum is King Gyanendra. If the political stalemate continues then King Gyanendra will be in a better position.
