You know that a very bloody and violent civil war has been going on in Sri Lankan for a number of years. Civil war is not exactly the thing that helps boost the tourism sector. So, it is interesting to see that the number of tourists in Sri Lanka has increased more than 8.6% in March 2008 compared to March 2007.
This is true that Sri Lanka is a very attractive place for the tourists. It is a very important land with natural beauty and some historical places. Sri Lankan government has been actively campaigning about tourism in different countries. A campaign was taken recently to attract more tourists from Iran and most probably this has helped some in March 2008. According to Reuters, 1300 tourists from Iran visited Sri Lanka in March 2008. There has been a significant increase from tourists from Russia and France.
So, you can easily understand that if the civil war ends then the number of tourists in Sri Lanka will increase significantly.
