Just a year ago, Sony Entertainment Television suffered a lot because of India’s miserable performance in ICC World Cup 2007. Some people felt that whether Sony Entertainment Television could make up the loss. Then, they bought the TV rights of IPL for ten years for $1 billion and many people thought that it was a big gamble for them. What if IPL did not become popular among TV viewers? Well, the good news for SET India is that IPL has become too much popular and IPL matches are bringing some healthy revenue for SET MAX the channel that you can watch IPL matches in India.
Times of India wrote:
Set Max, too, seems to have a winner on its hands. The channel's revenue marketshare has risen from a pre-IPL level of 5.7% to 28.8%, says the report. Its share of prime time has gone up to 29%, higher than the cumulative marketshare of the top nine Hindi general entertainment channels. From next year, Sony is projected to gross about Rs 650 crore in advertising revenue for about 45 days of IPL, which would be 7% of the entire estimated TV ad revenue of around Rs 9,000 crore for the whole year.
The best thing that IPL has done for SET MAX is that it has made SET MAX visible to millions of people in India. Well, SET MAX is mainly an entertainment channel and it does not broadcast any program on sports. I think that SET India officials should think seriously about turning SET MAX into a sports channel.

IPL has already become more successful all over the world. Its cash extraveganga and lot of foreign supersters attracted attracted viewers. Indian people can enjoy the match on SET MAX channel. Sony Entertainment has got the right to telecast all matches for 1 billion for ten years. And i hope that they can make up their loss.
