Nepal: $50 Million from World Bank for Peace Process

Nepalese people are now in a historical time. They had a peaceful election and there is a sense of optimism in Nepal that the future may be peaceful. Yes, peace has remained elusive for the country for many years. Now, the country has got the best opportunity for a better future. Nepal needs a lot of money to sustain its peace. The good thing is that World Bank has come forward to support Nepal with $50 million.

AFP reported:

The World Bank has announced 50 million dollars in grants to support a peace deal in Nepal, after the country's former Maoist rebels scored a surprise win in landmark elections last month.

The funds, the largest such aid flow since the peace process began more than a year ago, will be used as compensation for families of the 13,000 people killed in the civil war and for the allowances of some 20,000 Maoist former guerrillas confined to UN monitored camps, the World Bank statement said Wednesday.

I hope ADB and United Nations will also come forward. I also wish that China and India provide some support to the peaceful transition in Nepal. The Maoists have emerged as the largest party in the new parliament and you know that USA does not like the Maoist. However, I hope that US leaders can put their person disliking to the Maoists aside and think of the ordinary people of Nepal.

The idea is really good that World Bank is giving money for peace of the people of the 3rd world country. Now it is question that will World Bank interfere in the internal matter?

Yes, it is good news for Nepal that World Bank is going to provide some financial support to this mountainous country. In fact, Nepal went under monarchy for a long time and the country found international aid and financial support very hard to come by for years. Now, Nepal has an elected government and I hope that international institutions like World Bank, ADB, World Bank will continue giving monetary support to the country for the development activities and the multi national companies will also come to invest in the country.

I agree with you on the fact that China and India should provide their help to their neighboring county, Nepal. US leaders also should extend their helping hand considering the wellbeing of the general people of Nepal.

Nepal is a land of natural beauty. People from all over the world eyeing towards Nepal for travell. Mr. Mehedi I have read your article more and more and pleased to read the news about Nepal's current situation. Certainly it is a good news that Nepal is ruled by democratic leadership. Day by day, they are developing and become one of the most possibility countries economically in tourist sector. I am happy to see that ADB has agreed to support them with 50 million dollar. It is such a big amount of money to help Nepal for their peace process. Quickly we are going to see Nepal a peaceful country.
