Nepal: Investment and Assistance Needed

Peace really looks possible in Nepal now. In fact, for the last two years, the people of Nepal have experienced peaceful condition that remained so elusive for them for so many years. However, for ensuring peace, Nepal needs a lot of support from the international community.

VOA wrote:

Jagadish Chandra Pokharel, vice chairman at Nepal's planning commission, says with the elections over, it is time for investors and donors to return.

He says there are several plans to revive the economy and get more people jobs.

"The immediate priorities - employment generation and how that could be done," he said. "We have largely worked out that there will be larger investment in infrastructure projects, which will immediately generate employment and kick start the economy."

World Bank has come forward and others need to follow them. However, we have to remember that Nepal also needs a lot of foreign investment. I think that the Maoists have to play a key role in this regard. In the last two years, there have been numerous media reports that businessmen suffered from the Maoists and their trade unions. Now, the Maoists will be in the government and they will have to ensure business friendly environment in Nepal.

Thank you for your excellent article.
Maoist government must encourage the business community to carry on their business and it has to ensure a good business environment which will attract the MNCs and foreign direct investment in the country. I think, Nepalese government should keep business at the top of their priority list because without the help from business community, economy of Nepal can not be boost up.

peace is really needed for any country to go ahead and developed economically. Nepalese people has experienced peaceful condition for two years. And they also hope to see it for all time. As Maoist government should rule the government so, it is depending on them. Can they keep their people in a peaceful condition? i am happy to see that world bank has agreed to support them.
