India: Fewer and Fewer Girls

I have covered this topic a lot for the last two years in my two blogs. Well, I wish that I could see some positive things about this topic. Indians are may be totally crazy for their Bollywood actresses but most Indian parents don’t like to give birth to female babies. So, many couples do some tests and if they find that the baby will be a girl then they abort/kill the female fetuses. This has become a big social problem and if this way continues then very soon there will be a huge crisis of finding girls for marriage.

BBC wrote:

A report by the UK charity says increasing numbers of female foetuses were being aborted and baby girls deliberately neglected and left to die.

In one site in the Punjab state, there are just 300 girls to every 1,000 boys among higher caste families, it says.

ActionAid says India faces a "bleak" future if it does not end its practice of cultural preference for boys.

Yes, this will surely cause many social problems. I guess that renting a wife or gambling a wife will become a common matter after few years in India. The worst part is that Indian government is not that much sensitive about this problem. India media also do not address the problem adequately.

The same situation goes on in China. Global 'gendercide' is going on and no one wants to talk about it in the US. We just finished the Democratic primaries during which national media celebrities were constantly making misogynistic comments, and no one in the US wanted to talk about it. It is all the fashion to be against racism, and that is good. But in the US, it's considered shrill to discuss sexism and unattractive/unpleasant. I think whites have come to know and adore African Americans through sports/music/movies. Jordan/West/Smith have been able to reverse racism. Women's sports are seen as less that (softball vs hardball). Top actresses still earn less than actors and men don't buy No Doubt concert tickets. The US culture reaches across the globe through movies and music. When we clean up our gender bias, millions of women across the world will not be abused. Obama has not really chastised his followers for their inappropriate comments, his silence is part of the problem. Anything he says now will sound political to reign in Clinton supporters. The US needs to address the obvious sexism that exists in our nation that we export via the internet/movies/music globally. There are horrific consequences to misogyny.

I am sure that India will suffer a lot for their notorious incident if they do not stop it. I also hope that Indian government should raise awareness about it to general people. It is really sad news that more than one million fetuses have been killed in a decade. Girls are also created by god so don't measure them as a low creature.
