After the humiliating defeat in the first test, India is now trying to recover the confidence ahead of the second test, starting from 31 July 2008. In fact, India suffered their third heaviest defeat ever in test cricket. It is true that the performance of Indian bowlers compared to Sri Lankan bowlers was poor in the match, but the failure of India’s star-studded batting line up was largely exposed of.
In the presence of batsmen like Sachin, Sourav, Dravid, Laxman and Sehwag, India’s batting line up looks invincible, but such a batting line up broke down like a paper-house in front of Sri Lankan spinners Muttiah Muralitharan and Ajantha Mendis. I am not yet sure if India will bring any change in their batting line up for the second test. However, one thing is for sure that Indian batsmen have to be at their prime in the remaining two tests in order to save the test series.
It is shame for Indian cricket fans that their star-studded batting line up got break down in frong Sri Lankan spin attack. Does it mean Indian top order batsmen lost their ability to play cricket? If it is the answer then I think cricket board should select new players replace with old cricketers.
