Bhutan is a small Himalayan country, but it is getting much international exposure in recent months. Recently, the first national election has been held in the country. Now, reports have it that Bhutan is going to organize its first ever Miss Bhutan beauty pageant, financed by Karma Tshering, a Bhutanese filmmaker. 

In order to keep it conservative, there will be no swim-suit round in the competition. 77 young, aspiring girls aged between 18 and 28 from different parts of the country took part in the preliminary round earlier this month. In the preliminary round, contestants were dressed in Kiras, Bhutan’s tradition dress. The preliminary round short-listed 20 contestants for the grand finale, due to take place in September.

The first winner of Miss Bhutan title will represent Bhutan in a number of international beauty pageants including Miss Earth pageant in Philippines, Miss Young International in Taiwan and Miss Safari 2008 in Kenya.
