The first test of the three-match test series between Sri Lanka and India begins tomorrow (23 July 2008) at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo. With lots of hypes and expectations roaming around, the series has some unique attractions for the cricket fans. With Sachin Tendulkar’s record-breaking chance and much-awaiting debut for Ajantha Mendis in the centre of all attractions, both sides are looking to make a good start in the series.

To many, it is going to be a contest between India’s experienced batting line up with Sri Lanka’s spin attack, spearheaded by Muttiah Muralitharan. Sri Lanka has found an emerging star in Ajantha Mendis, who troubled Indian batsmen a lot during India’s 100-run defeat to Sri Lanka in Asia Cup 2008 final. India’s spin attack comprising Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh seems to be formidable too.

With three regular pacers being ruled out with injury, Sri Lanka’s pace attack solely relies on experienced Chaminda Vaas, while India’s pace attack has been strengthened with Zaheer Khan coming back to the team after recovering from injury.
