Gyanendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev is no longer the King of Nepal. He is the former King. Today, he became 61 years old. He was born in 7 July 1947. He became King in 2001 after a controversial killing in the royal palace. Some people feel that he had something to do with the killing but it was never proved. Anyway, he always wanted to capture all the power in Nepal. He could do so in 2005 by dissolving the parliament and taking up all the power.

Many people did not like his direct rule and came to the street in the early parts of 2006. He was forced to reinstate the parliament in 2006 and in 2008, general election took place in the country. After that, the political parties decided to abolish monarchy and establish a democratic republic in Nepal.

So, now, Gyanendra is in Nepal like an ordinary man. The only thing he can do today is to remember the good old days.
