India is becoming a very attractive market for automobile makers and since India is not a rich country, the demand is most for cheap cars. Right now, Maruti Udyog Ltd is dominating this segment of the market with its 800cc Alto and Maruti 800 that cost $4,500. Well, this price may sound to be very cheap for a consumer in Europe or North America but for majority of the Indian population it is still out of reach. Maruti has partnership with Japanese company Suzuki and with the support of Suzuki, it is doing very well in the Indian market. Tata Motors is now trying heart and soul to grab a share in the low end car market. Tata Motors has taken a very ambitious plan to introduce a car with the price of Rs 1 lakh (nearly $2,000) in the Indian market within the next few years.
If TATA Motors can really come up with a car for $2,000 then it will surely dominate the market not just in India but also in many countries of Asia. I am sure the other car companies who are present in the Indian market will surely try for similar cheap cars.
What is your idea about it? Will you be interested to buy a car for $2,000?
