India has been getting success in many areas as far as outsourcing is concerned and now it is perhaps the turn of clinical trails to be outsourced to India in large bulks. So, many Indians will become similar to guinea pigs in clinical trial. Well, I could even find an article, 'A Nation of Guinea Pigs' that talks in detail about the clinical trial industry outsourcing to India. According to McKinsey (the renowned consulting firm), clinical trial will become $1.5 billion industry for India by 2010. The main advantage of India in clinical trial outsourcing is that medical education in India is entirely carried out in English language and that is why medical professionals here are skilled in the language. Secondly, all the activities in Indian hospitals are carried out in English language and that is why there is no need to translate anything and thus India has a distinctive edge over China in this field.
Indian hospitals are already carrying out clinical trials for USA and Europe and this indicates that Indian medical professionals can handle clinical studies of international standard. I have just one concern. In the west, strict safety standard are maintained while doing test on human beings. I just hope that the same strict standard is maintained in India too and if any accident happens then adequate compensation is paid to the victims.
