Harley-Davidson wants to ride in the Indian roads
If you are an American reader then surely you know much more than me about Harley-Davidson and its motorbikes. Really, Harley-Davidson is not a very famous name in South Asia and until now its bosses had no problem about it. However, now Asia is becoming a very attractive market for any motorbike company and Harley-Davidson bosses have targeted two countries in this regard: Vietnam and India. India is now the second largest market of two-wheeler motorcycles but foreign made motorcycles have to pass a barrier of very high tax and emission standard. Harley-Davidson officials are hoping that US officials will support them in making a breakthrough in the Indian market. Harley-Davidson bosses are so keen to tap into the Indian market because the company is witnessing a healthy growth in the sale of its motorcycles in foreign markets compared to US market.

I think that Harley-Davidson should set up a manufacturing facility in India to cover the South Asian market. Indian government will surely welcome any investment in the manufacturing sector. That is why the officials of the company should try for getting an extra leverage from the Indian government by setting up a manufacturing plant here instead of trying to enter its motorbikes into the Indian market.

Maybe they are still testing the waters if it would really make a hit there in India. And when they see it as profitable enough, then they'll setup their manufacturing plant there.

I agree with you that Indian government will give all kind of helps for seeting up a manufacturing plant because they will not loose a single chance of getting foreign exchange and many people will find employment and people will be skilled in motorbike industry and then local investors will have a chance for making a industry like that.
On the other hand, Harley Davidson company will find some cheap labour that will decrease the production cost. So, I think this cna be a very good steps for the betterment of both India and the Harley Davidson.
Thank you for your well-organized article.

HD is a exclusive things, I dont think its good to set up mass production. But for marketing in other country outside US is a good idea. Rich people on that country will interested to buy it.

I repeat again, HD is exclusive and if I have HD , I want it to be mine only that have this, not all the neighbourhood riding HD.
