![]() India may not be a rich country but Indians love traveling and now Malaysia is trying to attract the Indian and Chinese tourists to visit the country. Until now, Indian tourists were entitled to have 3 weeks of single entry visa. Now, Malaysian government is going to issue tourists from India and China 1 year multiple entry visa so that these visitors can come back to Malaysia even after visiting neighboring countries like Singapore, Indonesia and Thailand. So, for the Indian tourists it is like a bonus- they can first come to Malaysia and then visit Singapore or another neighboring country and can again come back to Malaysia.
I wish that South Asian countries could learn some tips from Malaysia about tourism. Malaysia has a set a target of attracting 2 million visitors in 2007 and has undertaken a campaign called "Visit Malaysia Year 2007". After manufacturing, tourism brings most foreign exchange for the country and the government is optimistic that if in 2007 2 million visitors travel Malaysia then the country will earn nearly $10 billion of foreign exchange. In case, you have forgotten, just today I wrote a post in this blog titled, India targeting $12 billion of Foreign Direct Investment.
