Samsung trying to cash in with World Cup Football 2006
India could never qualify in World Cup Football and it is a reality that football is no where near to cricket in terms of popularity in India. However, World Cup Football is altogether a different ball game and Samsung is now trying to make the best out of it. Samsung is hoping that in 2006 it will be able to sell 100,000 flat panel TV sets in Indian market. If Samsung can really do it then the company will have a market share of 50% in this segment. With the flourishing Indian middle class getting more eager for luxury items, the future for Samsung looks only brighter.

In 2005, Samsung earned revenue of Rs 62 billion from India and this year, Samsung is expecting a 20% increase for its revenue. Samsung is also running a very successful campaign in Korea ahead of World Cup Football 2006. In fact, Samsung is expecting a $10 billion income from sale of TVs from the Korean market. Well, Indian market is not so rich yet but Samsung will surely play very well.

Right now Samsung has 28% market share in the color TV segment in India and Samsung bosses are hoping that soon it will become 32%. The success of Samsung in India reminds me of one thing only- Samsung realized the potential of Indian market at the right time and it is now reaping its harvest. I wish other large companies like Samsung could realize the fact that it is high time to investment in all the South Asian countries including India.
