![]() In the previous post, I talked about the rising sale of TV sets ahead of World Cup Football 2006. However, more than TV companies and traders, workers in tailoring shops are working day and night to make thousands of flags of the participating countries in World Cup. In the major cities, these flags are flying high on almost every roof. In some roofs, you can see more than one flags indicating that the people of the house are supporters of different teams. Well, most people in Bangladesh support either Argentina or Brazil and it seems that Argentina has a little bit more support. Perhaps, the only reason behind such enormous support base for Argentina is the charisma of Maradona. Some flags of Italy, Germany, Korea and Japan can be found too.
Well, I myself is a big fan of football but what I lament during every World Cup Football event is that in Bangladesh, millions of people forget everything and just get busy with World Cup. In the offices and educational institutes you can find tired and sleepy faces who have spent whole night watching football in TV.

The world cup comes around every 4 years and so it does nt matter too much if the country grinds to a halt. It gives the people something to look forward rather than look forward to another day of bleakness.
Also the country does nt do a lot when theres no sporting event so I doubt much productivity has been lost. I am sylheti.
Hi! My name is Luciano and I am from Argentina. I just wanted to say that I appreciate the support that many people from Bangladesh have always shown towards our national football team and our main football figure, Maradona. It is incredible that despite the long distance that separates our countries, people at Bangladesh have always supported our team, despite the fact that we are also a poor country with no "marketing" backing our team and players, like the marketing that England has in Asia, speacially with Beckham, who has more of a movie star than a real football player. Anyhow, I just wanted you to know that here at Argentina we appreciate your support, and that I am always alert on seing if there is any news on how Bangladesh is doing, not only in football. I hope that our countries can be friends for many years. Good luck!
