![]() China has consistently remained Pakistan's closest alley for many decades and that is why the launching of passenger bus service between the countries did not surprise anyone. Rather, I got surprised to figure out- what took so long! The bus service will connect Pakistani northern town of Gilgit and western Chinese city of Kashgar. The 700 kilometer distance will be covered in 14 hours. This move will contribute in increasing border trade between the two countries. Tourism industry will also witness a much needed boost. Pakistan has got already bus service with India and it has become very popular. The bus service between Pakistan and China will perhaps inspire other South Asian to consider this idea very seriously. Bus service runs between Bangladesh and India.
Bus and train communication among South Asian countries are yet to develop adequately. However, land communication can play a vital role in giving a boost to business and tourism. Unfortunately, as a result of years of mistrust among the South Asian countries, we cannot expect of a quick breakthrough.

I just hope terrorists don't see this bus service as a means to further their suicide bombing cause.
