Political stability: The best Element for ensuring Tourism Growth
Nepal may be a small country but it has undoubtedly some of the best tourist attractions in the world. 8 out of the 10 top mountain peaks in the world are in this country and that is why it is an attractive destination for the tourists from around the world. Nepalese government has always a very liberal attitude towards tourism as this sector has a significant contribution in the Nepalese GDP as well foreign exchange earning. However, Nepalese tourism suffered a serious setback in the early part of this year because political violence. In fact, in April 2006, the number of tourists who visited Nepal dropped by 2.2% compared to April 2005. However, after the pro democracy movement succeeded in restoring democracy in the country, political and social stability came to the country and so too the tourists.

Last month (June 2006), the arrival of tourists to Nepal has increased by 13.8% compared to June 2005. In June 2006, 21,444 tourists came to Nepal while the figure was 18,840 for the same month a year ago. You can know more about the background of the tourists by visiting the related articles given at the end of this post. This is a classic example of the necessity of political and social stability for the tourism sector of a country to flourish.

All the Asian and African countries can learn something from the example of Nepal in this regard. Specially, all the South Asian countries have something to learn. I wish that the political leaders, regional leaders and businessmen (related to tourism) could come together in every South Asian country and reached to an understanding about ensuring peaceful condition at least about the areas related to tourism. That would benefit all.

What do you think about it? Is it possible?
