Turned down by a Local God: King sees blessing of a Foreign Goddess
Before April 2006, many Nepalese people believed that their King was the incarnation of Hindu God, Vishnu but the pro-democracy movement of April 2006 has changed the landscape of Nepalese politics- perhaps once and for all. Nepalese King Gyanendra was the patron of  Pashupatinath temple in Kathmandu, the holiest temple of Nepal and his queen was the chair of the organization that looked after the temple. It seems that Lord Pashupatinath has taken away his blessing from King Gyanendra as the King is losing his political and financial privileges almost on a daily basis. So, he is now seeking the blessing of a foreign Goddess.
Tomorrow, Harihar Swami, an Indian yogi, will offer special prayer Vindhyavasini Dham, one of the holiest temples in India. The goal of this prayer is to seek divine blessing from Goddess Vindhyavasini for the welfare of King Gyanendra. The priest will pray to the Indian Goddess that King Gyanendra can get his privileges back and the royal family in Nepal can get back their influence in the country.

Do you know why the local God got angry with King Gyanendra in the first place?
  1. King Gyanendra tried to destroy every symbol of democracy in Nepal.
  2. He increased the budget of royal family many times in four years so that he and his relatives can have the most luxurious lifestyle in one of the poorest countries in the world.
  3. He and his family did not waste any opportunity to destroy the economy of the country through corruption and mismanagement. He gave many contracts to his relatives without any competitive bidding.
  4. He imposed a threat of $7,000 fine to any media that would write against the corruption of the royal family.
  5. He and his relatives and friends plundered thousands of dollars from the fund of the temple of Pashupatinath. People from all parts of Nepal come to temple and offer cash and jewelry to God. Naturaly, Lord Pashupatinath was took away his blessing from King Gyanendra.

Since King Gyanendra has realized that it is impossible for him to get the blessing of the local God, he is spending nearly $8,500 for this special prayer to the Indian Goddess. The original budget of the Indian yougi was $34,000 only. However, the Nepalese parliament has cut the royal family's budget a lot and so the Indian yogi will have to be satisfied with one fourth of his initial asking.

The whole story is like a sci-fi movie. Isn’t it? I guess the director of the Lord of the Ring should think of making a movie. If not, George Lucas can give it a try too.
What do you about it?
