Shangri-la is a happy place that exists in fiction. However, in Nepal, Casino Shangri-la is going to be a place for the rich people to enjoy. In South Asia, casinos are not available in most of the places. Nepal is an exception about it. To promote tourism, Nepalese government has a relaxed attitude towards casinos and there are several of them. Nepal is not a rich country and most of the customers are tourists from other countries. The management of Casino Shangri-la has come up with an interesting idea. They have managed to get Urmila Matondkar to visit the casino and thus they are hoping the presence of this glamorous Bollywood actress would attract many businessmen from India and Bangladesh. I am quoting from a report of India eNews:
" The actress, who’s known as much for her versatile acting as her sizzling guest appearances in films like ‘China Gate’, where she outshone the leading ladies, will make a special appearance Saturday at Kathmandu’s newest casino, Casino Shangri-la, to inaugurate the gala opening.
Focusing on wooing visitors from India and Bangladesh, Casino Shangri-la is aiming to create its unique identity among the capital’s seven casinos by offering glamour and entertainment along with gaming.
‘In India, you can’t meet celebrities just like that,’ says Shalini Wadhwa, chief executive officer at Casino Shangri-la. ‘But here, you can.’
Guests at the casino can have a photo session with Urmila and lively interaction. After the grand opening, Wadhwa plans to get more celebs from India."
Wow, I am sure that Casino Shangri-la is going to make a huge impact within a short time. Nepal is just one hour journey from India and Bangladesh and that is why many businessmen from these countries will be interested to go on Friday evening and come back on Sunday night or Monday morning. Casino Shangri-la wants to attract this booming market. Especially from India, more and more people are visiting Nepal in the recent months and Indian tourists constitute nearly half of all tourists to Nepal. So, Bollywood actors and actresses will become the key attraction. I am just wondering that how much Urmila Matondkar is getting from the casino for her appearance.
In the end, Shangri-la is not a place like heaven anymore. Shangri-la is becoming a concept for the rich people to enjoy.
