Nepal is now suffering from one of the worst floods in the recent years. Many people have already died and many farmers have lost their crops. The people living in flood affected areas are passing a very tough time. They have lost their houses and crops and the worst thing is that food is becoming scare in these areas. Poor people. They have no money to buy and even if they can get some money, food is not available. To give you an idea of the severity of the condition, I am quoting from a Reuters report:
“The Nepal Red Cross Society (NRCS) said on Monday that the worst flooding to hit the country's western region in a decade had killed at least 50 people. It said 60,000 villagers in 13 districts had seen their farms and food stocks destroyed.
NRCS said food aid had reached most of the affected population, but that large numbers of families, especially in remote villages where roads had been destroyed and rivers were still high, were yet to receive supplies. Many people were walking for hours and crossing swollen rivers to get food.”
Nepal is one of the poor countries in the world and Nepalese economy did not have good time for the last few years as the country was plagued with violence and civil war. Democracy was restored in Nepal this year. I just with that donor countries and donor agencies now come forward and help Nepal.
