Nepal’s people are going to face serious load shedding next year due to poor rainfall in central Nepal and repairing of the hydro electric systems. According to the officials, load shedding will extend to nine hours a day by next year. The chief of Nepal Electricity Authority, Arjun Karki, said that the load shedding will start from next Friday. Electricity will go out for two and half hours.
Karki said that the main reason behind the power cut is poor rainfall in central Nepal. The Western part has observed heavy rain and flood, but most of the reservoirs are situated in central part. Due to poor rainfall, these reservoirs could not have much water. The water of these reservoirs is used to produce electricity in the dry winter and summer season.
This is really a serious problem for Nepal. I live in Bangladesh and here too we have serious load shedding problem. Hardly a day goes by the electricity goes away and comes back after one or one and half hour during summer. Summer season in the South Asian countries is very hot. The scorching heat sometimes even claims lives. People could not work for long time and the electricity failure only adds up to their rising discomfort. Not only the normal people, but also various business organizations suffer from load shedding. Think about the software firms, how they would work in the face of such continuous power failure. I really feel sorry for the Nepalese people. Let’s hope that government will find some sort of alternative source for power supply to make people’s lives a bit easier.
