Maldives may be a small country with a tiny population but when it comes to doing business in South Asia, it does not want to remain behind anyone. I am happy that Maldives is going to have its first mobile phone fair later this week. Haveeru Daily wrote:
“Wataniya has organized Maldives’ first Mobile Fair, which is set to start on Thursday. According to a statement made by Wataniya, six other mobile phone retailers are taking part in the fair. The fair is to take place in the Rannabandeyri Maalam of Dharubaaruge, and will last from Thursday to Saturday night.
The participants in the fair consist of KPS, CP, L-Mobiles, Mobile City, Tech and Toys, and Veyla.
Wataniya has said in a press release that it will be possible to experience currently provided and upcoming services at a stall.”
I could not find any recent statistics about the number of mobile phones in Maldives but I could find that in 2004 there were 113,200 cell phones in the country. In fact, compared to other South Asian countries, Maldives have a higher teledensity.
