![]() It is really great to see that Nepalese government has decided to fight against polio disease seriously. Nepal had good success in the past too and no case of polio was heard in Nepal during 2000-2004. Since, Nepal has an open border with India, polio comes from India sometimes and Nepal government wants to eradicate polio completely within the next two years. I am quoting from a report of People's Daily Online:
“Three vaccination campaigns scheduled for this year, supplementary immunization campaigns and strict cross-border surveillance can help Nepal become a polio- free nation by 2008, the World Health Organization (WHO) said.
Julian Bilous, senior adviser of Polio Eradication and Expanded Program on Immunization of the WHO was quoted Friday by The Himalayan Times as saying that while the first phase of the vaccination campaign will be carried out on October 14-15, the second phase will be on November 18-19. The date for the third phase of the campaign has not been announced.
Nepal had remained polio-free from 2000 to 2004.
Bilous said Nepal is in a better condition compared to neighboring countries as far as achieving the goal of getting rid of polio by the year 2008 is concerned.”
I am happy that Nepal government is investing on the health of the children. Well, many children in Nepal suffer extreme poverty and hunger. Many children are also addicted to drug too. I wish that Nepal government gives more importance to the problems of the children in the country.

I'm grateful to see this horrid disease die. I belong to Rotary International and polio has truly died due to the efforts of this marvelous service organization -- volunteers give of time and money to make the world different!
