Online Remittance: Good news for Nepalese Workers
Thousands of Nepalese workers work in the Middle East countries. Sending money to home has always been a problem for many of them. It is great to see that Everest Bank Limited has taken the initiative to make this process easier. I am quoting from the website of this bank:
Everest Bank Ltd. proudly announces the launching of its own web-based online product “EVEREST REMIT” through Thomas Cook Al Rostamani Exchange and Asia Exchange Centre, Dubai. This facility is also available from Trust Exchange Co., Doha Everest Remit enables people from the Middle East to remit their savings to their families in Nepal at a nominal cost with an attractive exchange rate. With just a click away, EVEREST REMIT is highly efficient as compared to the TTS and Drafts currently being used. Dedicated to provide secured online money transferring facility EVEREST REMIT is well equipped with high security features, using universally accepted VERISIGN, Digital Certificate, besides other security measures.

In an attempt to broaden its coverage for making remittance payments at various locations in Nepal, Everest Bank Ltd. has entered into agency arrangement with Agricultural Development Bank and has also appointed sub-agents at various locations with coverage of more than 50 payout locations. The launch of the scheme also has the festive season offer of a free return ticket to Kathmandu by a lucky draw among the people who use EVEREST REMIT up to 31st Dec. 2006.”

I know that many Nepalese workers will be very happy to hear this news. However, I just hope that the bank this matter very easy and inexpensive. Many workers don’t earn a lot of money. So, any expense they have to incur is not good for them. Still, I am very happy for this initiative of Everest Bank Limited.

I never new Nepal also had many workers abroad. Filipinos are also frequent workers abroad. Mostly domestic helpers and blue collared workers, one intellectual here has a theory. Since our fellow Filipinos has almost covered the entire globe to find work in most unlikely places, we can dominate the world culturally through the influence of our countrymen who are usually found within their employer's households taking care and most of the time talking with their kids.

If you ask me, it's possible but highly unlikely.
