Dengue fever has become a serious headache for Indian government. Already, a number of people have died from this fever in India. It is a problem in Sri Lanka too. Even in my country, Bangladesh, dengue has been a big fear for us in the past. So, dengue is now coming to Nepal. However, Nepalese officials are not that worried about it and are confident that they can fight agasint this disease very well. Nepal News reported:
“Dengue fever, a communicable disease that has claimed more than 60 people in India can now be diagnosed in Kathmandu.
"Diagnosis is possible in Nepal and infected people need not go to India or other countries," said a statement of National Reference Laboratory (NRL).
Talking to Nepalnews, chief of NRL, Chintamani Sharma, informed that they will start sample tests of Dengue fever after a week once the medical kit arrives from Israel.
“Though there are no cases of Dengue fever in Nepal so far, if any suspected cases arrives, we will preserve the blood sample for a week till our kit arrives and we will start giving the result within the day then after,” Sharma added.”
There is a strong possibility that dengue may hit Nepal this season. Well, Nepalese should be prepared for any attack of dengue. Otherwise, its tourism sector may get badly hurt. What I feel is that South Asian countries should arrange more funds for research on dengue.
