Data Security: India=USA?
Paul McDougall has posted an interesting entry in the blog of InformationWeek. Infosys CEO: Data Security In India As Strong as In U.S.- this is the entry. Here, Paul has stated his conversation with Infosys CEO Nandan Nilekani about the recent scandal about data theft from Indian call centers aired by Channel 4. Nandan Nilekani is confident that it wont effect his company Infosys as Infosys has managed to achieve high level of confidence among its customers.

Nandan Nilekani also pointed out that data security is a world wide issue. I am quoting from the report:
Nilekani also pointed out that data theft happens everywhere, including the U.S. "This hasn't happened in India alone," he said. He's right about that. A Google search on 'data breaches' will turn up hundreds of cases--in the U.S. alone. So what's all the hysteria about? Exposing corruption in far off India makes good headlines, in the same way that stories about hunger in Africa get more ink than reports on domestic poverty. But reality goes much deeper than a headline or a sensationalistic documentary.”

Well, I do not share the same idea with Nilekani. Such logic will only make the hands of opponents of outsourcing stronger. No one wants that their sensitive information get stolen in India. No one also wants to hear that since data get stolen in USA, the same thing would happen in India.

Am I wrong?
