China and Nepal are neighbors but they do not have that much economic interaction. Nepal is closer to India than China. Chinese leaders are eager to change this condition and exert its influence in South Asia. To do so, the first thing needed is increase contact between China and South Asia. Air China is just going to do that about Nepal. It is going to expand its coverage of Nepal more. It is going to connect Nepal with some of the Chinese cities. People's Daily Online reported:

Air China is all set to extend its services to Nepal from different Chinese cities beginning 2007.

According to Qiao Shuwen, General Manager of Kathmandu office of Air China, the airline will operate one flight per day from Lhasa to Kathmandu during the high season in July-October from next year.

It will also give continuity to four flights a week in March- June, which it has been operating at present in other seasons as well.

This is the age of regional cooperation. Unfortunately, South Asian countries are yet to understand the value of regional cooperation. It is nice to see that Air China is going to cover Nepal. Nepalese government should promote Nepal more to the Chinese tourists.
