2006 was a good year for Bhutan. The country had peace and stability. The political unrest in neighboring Nepal did not touch Bhutan. Bhutan has started its transformation towards democracy. We have seen violent pro-democracy movements in many other countries in South Asia. Bhutanese royal family and the government have acted very wisely and the transition towards democracy has taken a peaceful course.

This year, Bhutanese officials prepared a draft of the new constitution and also they are preparing for the first ever general election to be held on 2008. The idea of allowing only people with university degree to contest the election has sparked widespread controversy in Bhutan. If this proposal comes into effect then it will surely be an example to the rest of South Asia.
So, 2007 is going to be a crucial year for the country. This year, we will see the final steps being taken before next year’s general election.
let the new born tell their experience from other places in and beyound universe!
