If Amitabh Bachchan is the King of Hindi film industry then Rajinikanth is the King South Indian Film industry. Popularly known as Rajni, he is not only popular in
Although known as Rajinikanth, his real name is Shivaji Rao Gaekwad. Born to Maharashtrian parents Rajini comes from a very ordinary background. At the age of five, he lost his mother. Before coming into films he used to do various odd jobs like bus conductor, carpenter, and coolie. At that time, he was performing in different stage plays. Rajini got his first break in 1975. K. Balachander gave him a supporting role in his movie Apoorva Raagangal. Rajani had a fifteen minute appearance and uttered few dialogues but Balachandran understood the potential of the dark young actor and asked him to work in his next film. From then on, he became popular as a villain. It was SP Muthuraman who gave Rajani his first break as a hero.
In his 32 year long career, Rajini acted in more than 100 movies. His last movie Chandramukhi was released in 2005 and it became one of the most successful South Indian movies. In 2007, he acted in his 100th Tamil movie- Sivaji: The Boss which did a tremendous a business all around the world.
Unfortunately, Rajinikanth could not see much success in Hindi movies. It is not only Rajini but almost all the famous South Indian film stars who could not gain much popularity in the Hindi film industry. Still, Rajinikanth is the unspoken king of Tamil cinema and commends huge fan following which even would make Shahrukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan very jealous. Not only in terms of fan following, but Rajini is also the highest paid actor in the entire Indian film industry. He gets Rs. 150million per film plus a share of the film’s revenue. For Sivaji: The Boss he took Rs. 160million.
Although he got name and fame but Rajini never forgot his roots. As a person, Rajinikanth is very down to earth. In 1981, Rajinikanth got married to Latha and the couple has two daughters: Aishwarya and Soundarya. Rajini is a very religious minded person. After finishing each of his projects he visits various temples and religious sites. He also donated a large amount of money in various charitable activities.
